Open Call Now Open: €60,000 Funding Opportunity for Algae Innovators
The I3-4-SEAWEED project has launched its Open Call for startups and SMEs, offering a significant opportunity to advance innovation in the algae sector.
Opening on 20 August 2025 and closing on 22 October 2025, the call aims to support breakthrough solutions that contribute to the development of the European blue bioeconomy.
Supporting innovation in the algae sector
Through this Open Call, 30 selected projects will receive:
- Up to €60,000 in financial support
- Tailored technical and business support
This initiative is designed to help innovative companies scale their solutions, strengthen their market position, and contribute to more sustainable and resilient value chains across Europe.
Focus areas
The call targets high-potential innovations in two main areas:
Macroalgal Production Solutions
Improving cultivation methods both at sea and on land to enhance efficiency, scalability, and sustainability.
Algal Biotechnology and Downstream Applications
Developing innovative processing, analytics, and applications to unlock new value chains.
Eligibility
The Open Call is addressed to startups and SMEs located in eligible European regions, working on solutions aligned with the programme’s priorities. Applicants are encouraged to consult the full eligibility criteria and submission guidelines on the project website.
A strong European consortium
The I3-4-SEAWEED project brings together a consortium of leading European organisations, including KU Leuven, Universidade de Coimbra, and NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, alongside industry and innovation stakeholders.
The project aims to unlock the potential of algae as a sustainable resource, supporting Europe’s transition towards a greener and more circular economy.
